Music brings new life to everything it touches! Imagine having a sing-a-long as you begin your daily reading class! You would be combining the disciplines of reading (my book), music (my song), and physical education (if you choose to do motions).
My local library in Robinson, IL participated in using the reading themes provided by the state of Illinois during the summers my three children were growing up. Knowing how to play a guitar and being encouraged by the children's librarian, I decided to write songs that supported the summer themes to encourage my and all young readers to get excited about reading.
I performed those songs with the children during those summers. We had a marvelous time each week, starting and ending each session with the singing of my reading song. My songs were easy to sing, along with motions that children love. I now have the time to share these songs with classroom teachers.
